Remembering
the Great Depression
s one of four children, Waynonna Brown didn’t realize what was happening during the Depression. Her parents were tenant farmers in Kansas, and although they didn’t have much money, she never saw her family as worse off than others.
“I come from a family who pretty well accepts what’s going on and we haven’t spent a lot of time thinking about what if or I wish I could do this. If you can’t do it now, maybe you could do it later,” she said.
Brown does see similarities between the Depression and this recession, but remains optimistic.
“We came through it before, we figure we’ll come through it this time,” Brown said.
