Remembering
the Great Depression

live Clark remembers the children in school suffering more than she did. Her father paid off everything he bought, her family had two cars, and she was lucky to have a raincoat and roller skates.

But things were not easy for the people her hometown, Clifton, N.J. Three people close to her committed suicide because of financial failures, and one of her friends mysteriously moved out during the middle of the night and was never seen again.

“When you compare what we have today to what people had then, it doesn’t compare, doesn’t compare at all,” Clark said.
