Remembering
the Great Depression

“I was certainly not stressed by it. I don’t think my mother would have spent money no matter what, and she kept my father from being rash in his spending. As far as I was concerned, we were living a normal life.”
One of the more vivid memories she has from high school was when she saw “real democrats” handing out pamphlets. This was a first for her.
“I had never known that there were any democrats in existence. As far as I was concerned, everyone was a republican ... I was astonished.”
